Eichlberg pilgrimage church - Holy Trinity: interior

Eichlberg is a hamlet in the Upper Palatinate town of Hemau in the north-western part of the Regensburg district . It is also the name of the baroque parish and pilgrimage church located there, as well as the name of the mountain on which the hamlet is located. Every year the Trinity Festival takes place there, to which numerous pilgrims make pilgrimages.

geography

At a height of approx. 582 m, the mountain cone rises from the plateau of the Upper Palatinate Jura and, with the pilgrimage church on top , is a prominent landmark for the region that can be seen from afar.

church

The church is a baroque building by the builder Giovanni Battista Camessina from Graubünden , who was in the service of the neighboring Eichstätter Hochstift. It was built between 1697 and 1711 and also includes the previous building, a small chapel, which was built between 1693 and 1695 and contains the miraculous image The Coronation of Mary by St. Contains Trinity by the painter Johann Held from Stadtamhof . The small chapel of grace also contains a number of votive pictures and votive offerings, including diseased limbs of convalescents made of silver. Despite its baroque altars, the interior of the church itself looks a bit austere and sparse, as the originally planned stuccoing of the room has not been made for financial reasons . The main altar repeats the theme of the Chapel of Grace with the Coronation of Mary. The two side altars deal with the themes of the Annunciation (left) and Mary when she is deposed from the cross (right).

Parish fair is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday in September, the patronal feast on September 12th ( Mariae name ). On the Sunday after Pentecost ( Trinity Sunday ) the brotherhood festival of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Trinity takes place annually. The brotherhood belongs to the Trinitarian order founded by Saints Johannes von Matha and Felix von Valois , which endeavored to free Christian prisoners and slaves from Islamic captivity. There are also pictures of the two saints in the church.
