Eicke Richard Weber (born October 28, 1949 in Münnerstadt ) is a German physicist .

Life

Scientific activity

He received his doctorate in physics from the University of Cologne in 1976 on the subject of Point Defects in Deformed Silicon . His habilitation followed in 1983 with the topic of Transition Metals in Silicon . Weber was a professor at the University of California at Berkeley for many years until he accepted a call from the Fraunhofer Society . From July 2006 to December 2016 he was head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). In addition to his position as director of ISE, he held the chair for physics / solar energy at the University of Freiburg . As of May 2019, his h-index is 77.

In 2016 he ran unsuccessfully for the FDP in the state elections in Baden-Württemberg .
