The Eifel-Maar-Kaserne in Ulmen ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) was a property of the Bundeswehr , which was closed on June 25, 1997. In the barracks they were III. 2nd Battalion of the Air Force Training Regiment  2. Today the area is the Eifel-Maar-Park with facilities for people with disabilities, leisure and sport as well as commercial enterprises.

location

The barracks was located northwest of the center of Ulmen, north of the federal highway 48 and west of the federal highway 259 . Immediately south-east of the barracks was the Ulmen site administration , today a branch of the Bundeswehr service center in Mayen . Two kilometers east, on the other side of Ulmen, there is a shooting range .

designation

The barracks was named after its location in the Eifel and the maars there.

history

The barracks opened around 1962. On March 11, 1995, the closure of the barracks was announced. At the end of June 1996, basic training in the air force training units stationed there ended . On October 24, 1996, the battalion stationed there officially bid farewell.

Then the conversion began , in which 20 million euros, about half of which from public funds, were invested.

  • Anti-aircraft missile battalion 39 (1965-1970; relocated to Flensburg )
  • Telecommunication Service Group 421/40

  • Anti-aircraft gun battery 24 ( unit )
