Henry XVIII Reuss to Köstritz

Henry XVIII Prince Reuss zu Köstritz (born May 14, 1847 in Leipzig ; † August 15, 1911 in Schweinfurt ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry à la suite of the army and of the 1st Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 17 .

Life

Heinrich came from the Reuss zu Schleiz-Köstritz line of the ruling family of Reuss younger line . He was the son of Heinrich II Reuss zu Köstritz (1803-1852) and his wife Countess Clothilde zu Castell-Castell (1821-1860). He had two younger siblings: Heinrich XIX. Reuss zu Köstritz (1848–1904) and Heinrich XX. Reuss to Köstritz van Reichenfels (1852–1884).

Prince Henry XVIII worked in various civil and military positions. In 1883 he became the adjutant of Emperor I. Wilhelm appointed. From November 4, 1886 to January 26, 1892 he was in command of the 17th Dragoons Regiment . Promoted to lieutenant general in 1897 , he was then commander of the 14th division . In 1902 he was promoted to general of the cavalry.

family

Henry XVIII married in 1886 Charlotte Duchess of Mecklenburg [-Schwerin] (7 November 1868 - 20 December 1944), daughter of Duke Wilhelm zu Mecklenburg (1827–1879) and his wife Princess Alexandrine of Prussia (1842–1906). The couple had three children:

  • Heinrich XXXVII. (1888–1964), Lieutenant General ret. D.,
  • Heinrich XXXVIII. (1889-1918), fallen
  • Heinrich XLII. (1892-1949).
