The Eilbek class is one of four 1600 TEU - container ships existing ship class. The ships were built in 2004/2005 at Meyer-Werft for the shipping company Hansa Hamburg Shipping .
Ship description
The ships of the Eilbek class are 169 meters long and 27.2 meters wide and have a maximum draft of 9 meters. The carrying capacity of the ships is about 15,950 dwt. They have parking for 1,600 20-foot containers (1,600 TEU). With homogeneous loading with 14 t heavy containers, 1,100 TEU can be loaded.
The ships have an atypical arrangement of the hatches. Due to the threefold longitudinal division of the hold , they are considered to be “ open top ships ” in the middle area . The hatches are fitted with hydraulic folding hatch covers in the front and side areas . The advantage of this innovative design enables maximum flexibility when used as feeder ships and faster loading and unloading in ports.
The ships have their own passenger deck with six cabins. For the first time, the Eilbek class has the highest ice class “Finnish / Swedish 1A Super” for container ships of this size .
The ships are powered by an eight - cylinder two - stroke diesel engine made by MAN with an output of 12,640 kW . The ships reach a speed of 20 knots .
In the bow and in the stern area there is a transverse thruster control system with an output of 950 and 650 kW respectively.
The electricity is generated by a shaft generator with 2,250 kVA apparent power and three diesel generators , each with 1000 kVA apparent power. An emergency generator with 625 kVA apparent power was also installed.
The ships were from the shipping company Hamburg Lloyd bereedert . Until 2010 they sailed under the flag of Great Britain with home port London, then under the flag of Liberia with home port Monrovia in international maritime traffic. In 2017, the ships were taken over by Bernhard Schulte for around $ 39 million and re-flagged to Cyprus .
