A village pulls bare (Original title: Normandie nue ) is a French comedy film directed by Philippe Le Guay from 2018 . The cinema release in Germany was on August 16, 2018.
action
The film is set in the French village of Mêle-sur-Sarthe . The farmers are not doing well economically, but despite their protests, politicians ignore them. The mayor Georges Balbuzard ( Francois Cluzet ) is looking for a way out for his place, which is economically influenced by agriculture, and for its inhabitants. American photo artist Blake Newman ( Toby Jones ) is delayed from his return to the airport in Paris during a protest by farmers on the highway . He's been looking all over France for a new place to start a new photo project with naked crowds. When he and his driver Bradley ( Vincent Regan ) want to avoid the traffic jam on the country roads, he finds a meadow (“Chollet Pasture”) where he wants to take the photo with the residents of the nearest village as naked masses.
The photographer Newman first tries to convince the mayor Balbuzard of his project. Balbuzard soon realizes that with this action and the popularity of the American photographer, his village could find a way out of the economic misery. So he tries to convince one after the other in the village that they undress for the photo in the meadow.
Further storylines and characters enrich the story: Thierry Levasseur ( François-Xavier Demaison ), who moved to the countryside from Paris with his wife ( Julie-Anne Roth ) and daughter Chloé ( Pili Groyne ) to live in nature, but with the silence and seclusion in nature has its problems. Vincent Jousselin ( Arthur Dupont ) who has returned from Paris to sell his father's photo shop . He gets closer to Charlotte ( Daphne Dumons ), who works in the village dairy and has fallen in love with him. The village butcher ( Grégory Gadebois ), who under no circumstances wants his wife ( Lucie Muratet ), a former village beauty, to pose naked in front of all fellow citizens for the photo and he therefore almost becomes a murderer ...
When too few villagers came on the day the photo was to be taken, photographer Newman, exasperated, leaves the place and France without being able to complete his project. However, after a while Vincent finds a way to make the entire village bare for a group photo in the pasture even without an American star photographer.
Reviews
“A tragic comedy with a lot of sympathy for the plight of the French farmers, the humor of which is somewhat tame. Staged in a very leisurely manner, the film is able to entertain and also touch people primarily through its mostly well-met village characters. "
"In" A Village Goes Bare "the dramatic problems of French agriculture become a pretext for a shallow and increasingly silly comedy scenario."
