A prayer for three cannons (original title: Professionisti per un massacro ) is a spaghetti western from 1967, staged by Nando Cicero . The film, starring George Hilton and George Martin as well as Edd Byrnes in the leading roles, ran a little late on December 4, 1970 in German-speaking countries.

action

An adjutant in the Southern Army , Lloyd, has got hold of a shipment of gold that General Sibley used to buy weapons and ammunition. Lloyd flees to the Mexican border with his cronies. Sibley appoints three people sentenced to death - gentleman crook Chattanooga Jim, preacher Tim Dooley, and horse thief Fidel Ramírez - who could buy their lives by capturing Lloyd and recovering the gold. The task of the three soldiers is made more difficult by the intervention of the Mexican bandits around their leader El Primero, into whose hands the precious cargo falls. However, the three allies succeed in working with Lloyd to get the gold back. In the exchange of fire, Lloyd is fatally hit. When meeting General Sibley, each of the three receives a horse and his freedom. The next day the exchange of gold and arms that the Mexicans deliver takes place. Chattanooga, Dooley and Ramírez steal the car with the gold and escape.

criticism

The Italian critics praised the director Nando Cicero, who lifted the film out of the crowd of the bad and gave it "rhythm and conciseness". In Germany, people were more critical and called the work “primitive”.

background

Carlo Pes' film music was released on CD. The German dubbing was compared to a visit to a Berlin pub and comes from Rainer Brandt .
