The film documents El Chapo's childhood in poor circumstances, as well as his rise and fall, and treats him as an international icon of drug trafficking and drug imports into the US through his Sinaloa cartel . One speaks of his work for Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo of the Guadalajara cartel , which cooperated with the Colombian Medellín cartel of Pablo Escobar .
