El Masroig is a Catalan municipality in the province of Tarragona in northeastern Spain . It is in the Comarca Priorat .

Location and climate

El Masroig is located on a ridge at a tributary of the Riu de Siurana , a tributary of the Ebro . Neighboring towns are El Molar in the north, Marçà in the east, Els Guiamets in the south and Móra la Nova and Garcia in the west .

Culture and sights

Parish Church of Sant Bartomeu in El Masroig

The place is dominated by the dome of the parish church of Sant Bartomeu from the 19th century. One of the attractions of the place is the settlement hill north of the place on the road to El Molar on the Roig del Roget from the late Bronze and early Iron Ages with an area of ​​approx. 1,200 m².

El Masroig is about 40 km west of Tarragona on the Carretera Nacional N-420 between Falset , the capital of the priory (district town), and Móra d'Ebre .

The main source of income for the community is viticulture, as well as the cultivation of olive, almond and fruit trees as well as hazelnuts. The Masroig winery - the largest in the Montsant wine-growing region and one of the oldest in the Priorat - markets most of the wine and oil production. There are also several private wineries.
