economy

Important economic activity is the viticulture in the wine region Montsant . In 1933, a wine cooperative was founded in Capçanes to market the yields of the common vineyards more efficiently. After 50 years of barrel wine marketing, the company switched to grape marketing in 1980 and all oenological activities were discontinued. In the early 1990s, the Jewish community in Barcelona was looking for a producer of wine who complied with the strict Jewish dietary laws . The winery accepted the experiment and invested in technology and several sealable cellar compartments with their own tanks, barrels and equipment. Today the winery markets its Peraj Ha'abib from Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cariñena in cities with a high proportion of residents of the Jewish faith worldwide, which are grown on vines up to 70 years old at 500 m above sea level. The American wine critic James Suckling included two of the cooperative's wines in the list of his 100 best Spanish wines in 2018.
