Els Guiamets ( loz giaˈmɛts ) is a Catalan municipality in the province of Tarragona in northeastern Spain . It is in the Comarca Priorat .
history
The place was mentioned as early as the 13th century when it belonged to Tivissa . The power relations changed several times. Tivissa (and thus Guiamets) belonged to the Castellvell lordship until 1174, then to the Barony of Entença. With the establishment of the County of Prades ( Condado de las Montañas de Prades ), the barony of the county was added. From 1611 the community had its own church.
At the end of the 18th century or at the beginning of the 19th century, but certainly before 1811, Guiamets was split off from Tivissa and received the status of an independent municipality. In 1903 the entire city archive was destroyed in a fire. In 1952 graves from the Hallstatt period were discovered on the mountain La Tosseta , with numerous grave goods made of bronze and iron, including some bracelets. In January 2018 Gunter Demnig laid a stumbling block for Neus Català i Pallejà in the village .
location
The municipality is located around 50 km west of the provincial capital Tarragona . The Pantà dels Guiamets reservoir ( ), which was built from 1951 to 1971, is largely located in the municipality of Els Guiamets. It is fed by the Riera de Capçanes and drained via the Riera de les Olles, a tributary of the Siurana .
Demographics
In 1930 the community had 416 inhabitants, 339 in 1970, 305 in 1986 and 272 in 2017.
