El Villar is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

El Villar is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) El Villar in the province of Tomina . The village is located in the northern part of the municipality at an altitude of 2097  m on the right bank of the Río El Villar , which flows here in a southeastern direction and flows into the Río Kharachi Mayu , which reaches the Río Grande via the Río Azero .

The north-south running mountain ridges in the vicinity of El Villar reach heights of up to over 2400 meters.

El Villar is located at the transition from the Altiplano bounded by the Cordillera Central to the Bolivian lowlands of the Gran Chaco . The climate is semi-humid and a typical daytime climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are more pronounced than those between the seasons.

The annual average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only insignificantly between just under 15 ° C in June and July and 20 ° C from November to January. Transport network

El Villar is located at a distance of 217 kilometers by road southeast of Sucre , the capital of the department.

The 976 kilometer long highway Ruta 6 runs through Sucre, which connects Sucre with the Bolivian lowlands and the local metropolis of Santa Cruz . The road from Sucre to Padilla is paved only for the first 67 kilometers to Tarabuco , the following 120 kilometers to Padilla are covered with unpaved gravel. Fifteen kilometers before Padilla a dirt road branches off to the south and after ten kilometers reaches Alcalá and after another 40 kilometers El Villar .

Some municipalities in the Tomina province have a very high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of El Villar 32.0 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
