Elane is a German folk band from the Sauerland .

history

Elane was founded in 2001 by Joran and Markus Skoch (who also played with the Viking metal band Hel under the stage name "Skaldir" ). Most of the texts are in English. There are several German-language songs (e.g. Licht , Elfennacht and Abendruf ), a piece sung in Latin ( Deae Noctis ) and one with Elvish texts ( Nen ar Tasar (You see) ). The band's albums were created in the Kalthallen Studios and produced by Markus Skroch and Nico Steckelberg.

Elane performed at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and the M'era Luna Festival , among others . The band has been releasing studio albums since 2004. In December 2005 they went on tour in Germany with the US formation Unto Ashes . In 2007 Elane played several concerts with Faun and In the Nursery as well as a Germany tour with Dornenreich and Neun Welten . In 2008 Elane toured Germany, Switzerland and France with the band Qntal .

Cooperations

The band often works with other artists. For their 2011 album Arcane they collaborated with the German writer Kai Meyer . The album only contains pieces of music that deal with themes and characters from Meyer's novels. The band continued the concept in 2016 on their mini album More Stars and the album Arcane 2 (2017). As a guest artist, author and radio play director Marco Göllner speaks a text passage from the song The Wave Walkers on Arcane 2 . Music by Elane is also used in Göllner's radio play adaptation of Kai Meyer's novel Loreley .

Another artistic cooperation is the musical participation of the band members in the Paul Roland albums " Pavane" and "Nevermore". Paul Roland himself wrote four demos for the first Arcane album, which, however, were not used for stylistic reasons. They were subsequently released by Roland on his album Demos .

In collaboration with game designer Michael Menzel , the band developed the soundtrack for the second part of the board game series The Legends of Andor . The audio book The Legends of Andor - The Song of the King by Stefanie Schmitt is introduced by the piece Celeste by Elane. In 2017 the band produced another soundtrack for the series, which is included as a CD supplement in the 2017 bonus box for The Legends of Andor . In 2019 the band will release an independent music album consisting of individual pieces from the series of games. The booklet of the album "Legends of Andor" is decorated with illustrations by Michael Menzel, who also designed the cover illustrations of the three singles for the album.

Elane are featured as guest musicians on the debut album of the pagan folk band Vitae.

Trivia

Elane contributed in November 2008 with the song Nen Ar Tasar (You see) the title song for the 8th season of the radio play series Edgar Allan Poe (radio play series) .

The album concept for "Arcane" and "Arcane 2" came about by chance. After the author and band got to know each other personally at an Elane concert, the idea of working together arose.
