action

In the marriage between the stiff and extremely correct Salzburg lawyer Karl Rodenbach and his young wife Tina, things are not going well. You live side by side, the passion is completely lost. Your friend Tony Burger, a gallant and attractive charmer and womanizer, is completely different. He knows how to treat women so that he can land with them. And so he also proves to be a savior when the Rodenbach couple are not waved through when entering the Austrian-German border because Tina Rodenbach has forgotten her passport at home. But since her husband is expected punctually for an appointment in Munich, he unceremoniously unloads his wife with the remark that she should call a taxi for the return trip. Soon after, Burger appears in his fancy sports car, an old Jaguar, and offers Tina the ride home. She accepts. When he breaks into the Rodenbach villa on Tina's behalf, because she doesn't have the key with her and calls her home the following night to arrange a rendezvous with her, the lawyer's wife succumbs to his boyish Casanova charm. Tina assures Tony that this could only be a one-time affair, then they kiss.

A little later there is a serious accident. A cyclist is hit by Tony Burger's Jaguar. The man is killed as a result of the collision. The person who caused the accident commits a hit and run. The perpetrator is searched feverishly. The suspect initially seems to be Tina Rodenbach's lover. But things are different from what it initially seems. In the course of his research, Karl Rodenbach finds out that it was not Tony but his wife who knocked the cyclist over. Rodenbach is now doing everything possible to protect his wife. He makes false statements, lays wrong tracks and lies to the police. Plagued by a bad conscience, Tina not only confesses to her husband that she has hit the road, but also that she has made a mistake outside of marriage. In order to finally clear the table, Tina decides to make a confession and also to admit her guilt to the widow of the victim. This catharsis gives the Rodenbach's well-established marriage a new chance.
