Eli Wallace

Eli Wallace (born July 24, 1986 in New York City ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Wallace, who first grew up in El Cerrito, received piano lessons from the age of eight. He received his Bachelor of Music from Lawrence University in 2009 (with the distinction summa cum laude ); He graduated from the New England Conservatory with a Masters degree in Jazz Composition in 2011 . In Boston he studied with Jason Moran , Jerry Bergonzi , Ken Schaphorst , Frank Carlberg and Kati Agocs . Upon his return to the San Francisco Bay Area, he worked in various genres from free improvisation, straight-ahead jazz, and rock and pop music ; u. a. with Karl Evangelista , Jim Ryan, John Givens and Bill Wolter. The first recordings were made around 2012 when he was involved in Dan Meinhardt's debut album Gone West . He can also be heard on recordings by the bands Sound Etiquette, Noertker's Moxie and with his Cabbages, Captain, & King (with his own compositions). He played in a trio with Karl Evangelista and Jon Arkin; he also wrote music for jazz big band, solo piano, chamber orchestra and dance performances. His work Influx Rebellion was performed by the EarShot Jazz Composers Orchestra .

In 2015 Wallace moved to New York, where he was active in the improvisation scene. a. with his band project Slideshow Junky . He also plays in the Trio Cataclysmic Commentary and in the Duo Dialectical Imagination with Rob Pumpelly. In his career so far, he has also worked with Daniel Carter , Billy Mintz , Ches Smith , Trevor Dunn , Chris Pitsiokos , Andrew Smiley , Sandy Ewen , Carlo Costa and Sean Ali . In 2017 he released his debut album The Angel and the Brute Sing Songs of Wrath with Atma Nadi (with drummer Rob Pumpelly). The album Slideshow Junky I (Iluso) followed in mid-2018 ; it contains original compositions that he recorded in alternating line-ups with Aaron Quinn (guitar), Jason Nazary , Brandon Lopez and Devin Gray .
