Elias Räntz

Elias Räntz (baptized August 21st 1649 in Regensburg , buried 27. September 1732 in Bayreuth ) was a sculptor of the Baroque . Coming from a Styrian family, he worked, among other things, at the margravial court in Bayreuth.

Life

Räntz was appointed court sculptor to Margrave Christian Ernst in 1679 . He came from Italy , where he had studied in Rome , and was influenced by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Alessandro Algardi . Like his sons and grandchildren later, he enriched the Bayreuth cityscape with important works of art.
