life and career

Kennedy began songwriting with his brother at the age of thirteen and formed a band at his Rotherham school, Dinnington High School. However, composing and studio work interested him more than the performance of his pieces. He was trained as a sound engineer . As a result of a car accident, he started his own business as an engineer with the insurance sum paid out after buying the necessary equipment, which ultimately led him to music production. The first significant band in which he participated was "World Still Turns" , a studio band in Sheffield. Other members were former gospel singers John Taylor and Tom Chester. The band attracted a lot of interest from the major record labels. His first success as a producer was the hit single "Independence" , the title track of Lulu's 1993 album of the same name . This was followed by numerous projects with Pauline Henry, Dannii Minogue , Kenny Thomas and Take That .

In 2011 Kennedy planned a concert in Sheffield to raise money for his One Song Foundation. The concert marked its 21st anniversary in the music industry.

In 2012, Sheffield Hallam University awarded him an honorary doctorate (DUniv) for his contribution to the music industry in the region and for his special commitment to charity, both for his own and for various other foundations.
