Elisabeth André

Elisabeth André (born November 3, 1961 in Saarlouis ) is a German computer scientist and holder of the Chair of Multimodal Human-Technology Interaction at the University of Augsburg .

Career

André completed her computer science studies at Saarland University in 1988 with a diploma thesis on the subject of "Generating natural language utterances for the simultaneous description of time-changing scenes: the SOCCER system". From 1988 to 2001 she worked as a research assistant at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence . In 1995, she was with a dissertation on "A schedule-based approach for the generation of multimedia presentations" to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. In 2000 she accepted the call to a C4 professorship at the University of Augsburg. In 2001 she took over the management of the chair for multimedia concepts and applications. From 2004 to 2006 she was the managing director of the Institute for Computer Science at the University of Augsburg.

As an expert in “Intelligent User Interfaces”, “Virtual Agents” and “Social Computing”, André researches aspects and new technical methods of interaction between humans and computers with the aim of simplifying the handling of technical devices for humans. Her main research interests are human-machine interaction , multimodal interfaces , multimodal analysis ( physiological data, eye movements , language , gestures ), affective computing, tangible and haptic user interfaces , interaction techniques for expanded realities , virtual characters and interaction with mobile devices in instrumented rooms. Media designers , cognitive psychologists , educators and dramaturges are involved in transdisciplinary research .
