Elisabeth Vormeyer , b. Klarer (born September 28, 1893 in Nübel , † June 6, 1985 in Kiel ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and co-founder of the German Women's Ring as well as co-founder and chairwoman of the Schleswig-Holstein State Women's Council .

Life

After graduating from high school, which at that time only women from wealthy families could do, she became a teacher and passed her exams in English and French. This was followed by stays in Paris at the Maison d´Étude, at the Sorbonne and stays in England until shortly before the start of the First World War.

In the 1920s, Elisabeth Klarer worked as a teacher for Norag, the forerunner of the NDR, and wrote for several magazines. Early on she tried to give women a civic education so that they could use the newly acquired right to vote .

In 1924 she married Wilhelm Vormeyer, they moved to Kiel, where Elisabeth Vormeyer took over the chairmanship of the literary circle (member of the Association of German Women's Culture). Here, too, she was active in women's education.

In 1936, the Association of German Women's Culture was dissolved by the NSDAP and incorporated into the NSF ; Elisabeth Vormeyer, however, illegally continued the literary circle. This later resulted in the German Women's Ring . During the war she worked as a teacher in Kiel.

After the war (1946) she and her husband joined the CDU and in January 1947 Elisabeth founded an association that was supposed to rekindle political interest among women, the German Women's Ring. She was one of the founders of the German women's ring in Bad Pyrmont, headed the local ring in Kiel from 1947 to 1970 and the Schleswig-Holstein regional association for six years. She was also a member of the federal executive board.

Vormeyer set standards for future women's policy in Schleswig-Holstein. She played a key role in founding the State Women's Council, and also chaired it for around six years. Because of party political disputes in the state election campaign, she resigned from this office in 1958.

In 1954 she spent several months in the United States to learn about the organization of American women.

From 1955 to 1970 she was represented in the Kiel Council.

In 2008, the Elisabeth-Vormeyer-Weg in the Wik, Projensdorf development area was dedicated to her.
