Elisabeth Waldenau

Elisabeth Waldenau (born March 26, 1894 in Munich ; † 1983 ibid) was a German opera singer with the alto and mezzo-soprano voices .

Live and act

Elisabeth Waldenau first worked as an opera singer in Munich from 1920 to 1926, where she participated in the world premiere of Walter Braunfels' opera Die Vögel in 1920 . In 1927 an engagement followed at the Stadttheater Krefeld , then from 1928 to 1930 at the Stadttheater Elberfeld-Barmen . Afterwards she appeared mainly as a concert singer and worked as a singer on radio broadcasts of various German radio stations in the context of opera and concert programs. From 1937 to 1939 she worked for the Reichsender München .

She appeared as a guest at leading opera houses in Germany, including the German Opera House in Berlin, and from 1945 she was engaged at the Bavarian State Opera . After finishing her artistic career, she lived in Munich.

Sound carriers were recorded with Elisabeth Waldenau as Marcellina in Figaros Hochzeit by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Lucia in Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni , Emilia in Otello by Giuseppe Verdi , Marthe in Faust by Charles Gounod , Bostana in Der Barbier von Bagdad by Peter Cornelius and Gertrud in Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck . In a recording with Maria Cebotari , she sang Giovanna in Rigoletto .

In the fairy tale film Little Brother and Sister , she played the role of nanny Valentine.
