Elisabeth of Sicily (also Isabel of Aragon ; * around 1310; † March 21, 1349 in Landshut ) was by birth a Princess of Sicily from the House of Barcelona and by marriage from 1347–49 Duchess of Bavaria .

Life

Elisabeth of Sicily was a daughter of King Frederick II of Sicily and his wife Eleonore of Anjou . On June 27, 1328, when she was about 18 years old, she was married to the underage Bavarian Prince Stephan (II.) (Around 1319-1375), a son of Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian , who was allied with her father . Apparently, this political marriage did not consummate until around the mid-1330s. Four children emerged from her:

After the death of Ludwig of Bavaria in October 1347, Stephan II ruled together with his brothers in Bavaria and other Wittelsbach territories, and his wife Elisabeth rose accordingly to become Bavarian Duchess. However, she died in March 1349 at the age of only about 39 in Landshut and was buried in the Frauenkirche in Munich . In 1359, Duke Stephan II married Countess Margarete, a daughter of Burgrave Johann II of Nuremberg . Elisabeth was among other things about her son Stephan III. Grandmother of the French Queen Isabeau .
