Elizabeth Oehlkers Wright (* 3. October 1966 in Baltimore as Elizabeth (Ann) Oehlkers ) is a US-based translator .

Life

Elizabeth Oehlkers Wright translates texts by contemporary German-speaking authors, especially poetry , into English. In 1996 she earned an MFA in literary translation from the University of Arkansas . This was preceded by a study visit to Berlin from September 1994 to July 1995 , where she translated the German-Turkish poets Zafer Şenocak and Zehra Çırak . She then taught in Arkansas as well as at Boston University and Oberlin College . With Zafer Şenocak she gave bilingual readings in Memphis , New York , Cambridge , San Francisco and Los Angeles . She has received several awards and grants (including NEA and ALTA ).

Elizabeth Oehlkers Wright works in a medical translation agency in Boston and was married to the lyric poet and Pulitzer Prize winner Franz Wright from 1999 until his death in 2015 . She lives in Waltham , Massachusetts.
