Ellhofen ( Westallgäuerisch Ellhof e ) is a parish village of the market Weiler-Simmerberg in the district of Lindau and part of the Westallgäu region .

history

Ellhofen im Allgäu was first mentioned in a document in 872 with the name Ellnhoven . A document from 1287 shows that a knight family ( Knight Hermann von Ellnhoven ) was resident in the place. The castle ruins of Ellhofen were still intact at that time. In 1446 the knight family died out, whereupon the inheritance was divided.

Gasthaus Adler

In 1466 Ellhofen was sold to the merchant Wilhelm von Neidegg. This owned the place until the year 1562. During this time the place expanded considerably. In 1552, the Teutonic Order acquired control of Ellhofen. In the still-preserved official house of the Teutonic Knights, the Adler Inn is now located with the coat of arms of the former lords.

In 1806 Ellhofen was attached to the Kingdom of Bavaria through the Peace of Pressburg .

On January 1, 1972, due to the municipal reorganization of Bavaria, the previously independent municipality of Ellhofen im Allgäu was incorporated into the Weiler-Simmerberg market.
