The vehicles of type G 5 were freight locomotives of the Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine . A total of 215 copies were built from 1900 to 1907 and initially ran under the designations C 29 , C 31 and C 32 .
The vehicles were produced in composite construction based on the model of the Prussian G 5.2 . However, the boiler of the C 32 was around 2.3 m above the top edge of the rail, which made it possible to enlarge the fire box . The Westinghouse type air brakes used were installed so that the machines could also be used to move passenger trains .
After the First World War , 71 locomotives remained in Germany, Poland and Lithuania. In 1925 the Deutsche Reichsbahn still had the locomotives 54 324, 54 343 and 344, 54 353 and 54 368–386 in stock. During the Second World War , eleven former Alsace-Lorraine G 5.2s from Poland came into the Reichsbahn's inventory as 54 708–717 and 54 723. The locomotives that remained in France were taken out of service by the early 1950s.
The locomotives received Schlepptender the type 2'2 'T 16th
