Emanuel Gross

Emanuel Gross (also: Groß ; * December 13, 1868 in Punzau , Austrian Silesia ; † December 7, 1928 in Děčín ) was a Czechoslovak pomologist and professor of agriculture at the German Royal Bohemian Agricultural Academy in Tetschen-Liebwerd .

Live and act

After attending the state secondary school in Teschen , Gross studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna . In 1895 he was appointed professor of plant breeding at the Royal Bohemian Agricultural Academy Tetschen-Liebwerd. Gross dealt u. a. with the cultivation of vegetable seeds and with the cultivation of hops.

After the Agricultural University Tetschen-Liebwerd was affiliated to the German Technical University (DTH) in Prague in 1921 , Gross became head of the agricultural department of the DTH.

He was president of the fruit and horticultural association for the German Elbe valley in Bohemia .

In the period from August 17 to October 7, 1904, Gross made a trip to the USA on the occasion of the World Exhibition in St. Louis and wrote a travel report on his agricultural travel impressions from eastern North America.

He held the chair for plant breeding until his death. Gross died in December 1928 at the age of almost 60.
