Emanuel Semper

Emanuel Semper (born December 6, 1848 in Dresden , † November 16, 1911 in Dessau ) was a German sculptor .

Life

He was the sixth child of the architect Gottfried Semper and his wife Bertha Thimmig. From 1871 to 1878 he and his brother Manfred Semper managed the construction of the new opera house in Dresden , which was built according to his father's plans, and was responsible in particular for the design of the building decoration.

In 1881 he was appointed professor and appointed to the Prussian building, drawing and modeling school in Erfurt . However, the school was closed again after three years. He then worked as a freelance sculptor.

Emanuel Semper died at the age of 62. His final resting place is in Cemetery III in Dessau-Roßlau .
