Emil Issler

Emil Issler ( French Émile Issler ; born September 12, 1872 in Horburg ; † September 1, 1952 ) was an Alsatian, German, later French botanist and pioneer of plant sociology . His botanical author abbreviation is " Issler ".

Life

The son of a farmer was initially a primary school teacher in Münster and Strasbourg and later studied in Bonn and Berlin . He then became a secondary school teacher in Colmar , where he remained in school until his retirement.

In addition to his job, Issler was a botanist and one of the founders of the plant sociologist in the Upper Rhine and Vosges region . He was also a profound expert on the vegetation of Alsace and the Vosges. Excursions took him to Corsica, Romania and Italy. Issler was an excellent florist who dealt, among other things, with difficult clans such as the genera Chenopodium , Pulmonaria or Sorbus . He was a participant in the international botanist congresses in Paris in 1900 and Amsterdam in 1935.
