Emil Johannes Guttzeit

Emil Johannes Guttzeit (born March 1, 1898 in Königsberg ; † May 18, 1984 in Bad Ems ) was a German author and local history researcher who lived and worked in East Prussia and Diepholz ( Lower Saxony ). His focus was on publications on East Prussian and Diepholz topics. Guttzeit is an honorary citizen of the city of Diepholz.

Life

After attending school in Königsberg from 1904 to 1914, Emil Johannes Guttzeit trained from 1914 to 1917 to be a teacher at the Preparande in Königsberg and at the teachers' college in Pr. Eylau . From 1917 to 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War . He then worked from 1919 to 1940 as a teacher at various schools in the Heiligenbeil district . In 1933 he passed his secondary school teacher examination in the subjects of history and geography in Königsberg . From 1940 to 1944 he was a soldier (as an army high school teacher and as a soldier at the front) in World War II and then in British captivity . After that he was temporarily a construction worker in Osnabrück .

From 1946 Guttzeit was able to work again in his learned profession as a middle school teacher - first in Buchholz near Hamburg and from 1947 at the middle school in Diepholz . There he was appointed secondary school principal in 1959. In 1963 Guttzeit retired as a teacher and was now able to devote more time to his historical studies and publications.

As a young teacher at the age of 24, Guttzeit began to conduct genealogical and local history studies, to collect field names and legends . He worked in various archives, including regularly in the Königsberg State Archives.
