Emil Mrowetz

Emil Mrowetz (born December 21, 1913 in Gleiwitz ; † March 7, 2007 in Uchte ) was a German painter and sculptor .

life and work

Mrowetz was than nine tenth of 21 children in the Upper Silesian industrial town of Gliwice (Pol .: Gliwice born), where he grew up and operated artistically. From 1931 Mrowetz worked as a decorative painter in Bremen and, at the same time, as an intern at the local art college. In 1937 he married the Uchter singer and actress Mathilde Kröger. From 1940 to 1943 he served in the German Air Force, in between he studied at various art academies.

After a war wound and subsequent French captivity , he found accommodation in the Lohof district of the small town of Uchte in Lower Saxony. From 1951 to 1975 he worked as a freelance painter, sculptor and graphic artist in Bremen . Until 1973 Mrowetz was a board member of the Bremen Artists' Association. After the death of his wife in 1975 he moved to the Saarland community of Tholey , where he set up an apartment and a studio in the former school building. In 2002 Mrowetz returned to Uchte, where he died in March 2007 at the age of 93.
The municipality of Tholey owns a fund of works by the artist. After his return to Uchte, Mrowetz transferred 130 of his works (sculptures, reliefs, pictures) to the newly established "Emil Mrowetz Foundation". The fund is looked after by the Uchte Citizens and Culture Association and some of it is presented in a permanent exhibition in the local community center.
