Emil Petru (born September 28, 1939 in Târnăveni , Mureş County ; † March 1, 1995 ) was a Romanian football player . The midfielder played 175 players in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , and took part in the 1964 Olympic Games .

Career

Petru began playing football at Știința Cluj (later Universitetea Cluj ) at the age of nine , where he was promoted to the first team that played in Divizia A in 1956 at the age of 16 . On October 7, 1956 he had his debut there in the game against Dinamo Oraşul Stalin . At the end of the season the descent that followed Divizia B . Already in the following season the promotion succeeded.

With Știința, Petru played in the front midfield. In 1963 he got the opportunity to move to Dinamo Bucharest and thus to a top Romanian club. During his three years at Dinamo he was able to win the championship in 1964 and 1965 and the Romanian Cup in 1964 .

After Petru in the 1965/66 season had been largely ignored, he returned to Universitatea Cluj, but moved a year later to local rivals CFR Cluj in the Divizia B . There he ended his active career in 1969.

National team

Petru played 16 games for the Romanian national soccer team , scoring four goals. He made his debut on September 30, 1962 against Morocco . In 1964 he was in the Romanian squad for the Olympic Games in Tokyo , where he was used in four games.
