Emilio Cinense y Abera

Emilio Cinense y Abera (born September 2, 1911 in Guimba , Nueva Ecija ; † May 5, 1978 ) was a Filipino Roman Catholic clergyman and first Archbishop of San Fernando between 1957 and 1975 and then from 1975 until his death in 1978 .

Life

Cinense y Abera was ordained a priest on April 6, 1935 and then ministered for over twenty years.

On March 15, 1957, he was appointed Bishop of San Fernando to succeed Cesare Marie Guerrero and received his episcopal ordination two months later on May 11, 1957 by the Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines , Egidio Vagnozzi . Co- consecrators were Alejandro Olalia , Bishop of Lipa , and Hernando Antiporda , Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Manila . Between 1962 and 1965 he took part in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a Council Father.

After the diocese was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Aptam Ecclesiarum on March 17, 1975 , Cinense y Abera became its first archbishop. He held the office of archbishop until his death on May 5, 1978. He was succeeded on May 22, 1978 by the previous auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Manila Oscar V. Cruz .

During his tenure as bishop he worked as a co-consecrator in the episcopal ordinations of Jesus J. Sison in 1963, Mariano Gaviola y Garcés in 1963 and Celso N. Guevarra in 1972. In addition, he donated in 1972 the later Bishop of Balanga and current Bishop of Cubao , HONESTO ONGTIOCO , the ordination.
