Mariano Gaviola y Garcés (born August 15, 1922 in Dansalan , Philippines , † October 13, 1998 ) was a Filipino clergyman and archbishop of Lipa .

Life

Mariano Gaviola y Garcés received on 2 April 1949, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On March 8, 1963, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the first bishop of Cabanatuan . The Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines, Archbishop Salvatore Siino , donated him episcopal ordination on June 4th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of San Fernando , Emilio Cinense y Abera , and the Coadjutor Archbishop of Nueva Segovia , Juan Sison . On May 31, 1967, Mariano Gaviola y Garcés resigned as Bishop of Cabanatuan. At the same time Pope Paul VI appointed him . as titular bishop of Girba .

On March 2, 1974 Paul VI appointed him. as military bishop in the Philippines. Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Lipa on April 13, 1981.

On December 30, 1992, Pope John Paul II accepted Mariano Gaviola y Garcés' resignation for health reasons.

Mariano Gaviola y Garcés attended the second, third and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council .
