Emily Coutts (born July 4, 1989 ) is a Canadian film actress .

Life

Coutts grew up in a small town near Toronto . In Stratford , Ontario, she worked early as a musical actress . She later completed an acting degree at York University in Toronto, which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in 2011. In 2011 she had her first supporting role in the feature film The Bright Side of the Moon . In the next few years she made several guest appearances in various television series, and she also starred in several short films . In 2015 she played a supporting role in Guillermo del Toro's mystery - horror film Crimson Peak and a leading role in the comedy Barn Wedding , in which she also worked as a screenwriter and producer . Since 2017 she has played Keyla Detmer , a recurring supporting role as a bridge officer in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Discovery .
