His maternal grandfather, Refik Şevket İnce, born in Polichnitos near Mytilene on what is now the Greek island of Lesbos , served Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and held several ministerial posts from the 1920s to 1950s. Çölaşan's father worked in the State Meteorological Service, where he was general director for 14 years.

Reviews

Emin Çölaşan was a critic of Prime Minister Turgut Özal (1983-1989) who became the subject of his bestsellers in the 1980s - Turgut'un Serüveni [Turgut's Adventure] and Turgut Nereden Koşuyor? [Where did Turgut come running from?] . In the late 2000s, he focused his attacks on rival columnists and the Justice and Recovery Party (AKP) Mayor of Ankara Melih Gökçek . The two eventually appeared in a televised debate that received a warning from the state censorship agency for indecency . Çölaşan also criticized the current AKP government, which is why he was dismissed by the Hürriyet on August 13, 2007 after 22 years of service . A staunch and passionate Kemalist , he accused the government of reactionary acts and Islamism .
