Cities: Skylines is a city planning simulation published on March 10, 2015 by the Finnish developer Colossal Order , who previously developed Cities in Motion and Cities in Motion 2 . Like Cities in Motion, Publisher is Paradox Interactive . The Xbox One edition of the game was released on April 21, 2017, and the PlayStation 4 version followed on August 15, 2017.

Gameplay

In Cities: Skylines the development of a city is simulated, taking into account various factors such as crime , the environment , taxes , traffic flow and formation . The player can build on an undeveloped landscape at the start with the help of various buildings and zones. There are three different types of zones in the game, including residential, commercial and industrial zones. There are residential and commercial areas with low and high density. The workplaces are divided into industry and offices. In addition, the player can specify other districts, for. B. to promote the oil industry or agriculture. The appearance of the city or district changes depending on the setting of the parameters.

Roads can be shaped straight or freely. The network for the different zones is based on the course of the road. There are different street types (e.g. avenues) and street sizes (from gravel paths to highways) that have different effects on property prices and noise pollution.

In addition to roads, the player can also build metro lines, trains, airports and cargo ports, as well as tram lines, ferries, monorails, taxi stands, cable cars and zeppelin stations using various addons.

In Cities: Skylines the player can create his own maps with the help of the map editor and then play them. This means that real landscapes can also be reproduced.

Mods

For the game, players are developing numerous modifications that can be downloaded from the Steam distribution platform . These range from new building and vehicle models to new built-up or undeveloped maps to programs that precisely show the traffic flow of the simulated citizens. Management programs have also been developed which make it possible to coordinate traffic light regulations based on the extracted traffic information in such a way that a smooth flow of traffic is possible.
