Emma Haushofer Merk

Emma Haushofer-Wish (* 15. June 1854 in Munich , † 11 July 1925 ibid ) was a German writer and women's rights activist.

Career

She was born as the daughter of the painter Eduard Merk and his wife Margarethe Merk, b. Carpenter (1823–1889) in Munich, Schönfeldstr. 8 (Maxvorstadt) born.

In 1902 Emma Merk married the economist, politician and writer Max Haushofer Jr. She died in Munich in 1925. Her ashes were buried in the family grave of her husband on Fraueninsel in the Chiemsee.

Political action

Emma Haushofer-Wish was one of the co-founders of 1894 by Anita Augspurg launched Society for the Promotion of intellectual interests of the woman , now the Association for Women's Interests . From 1912 to 1913 she was its chairman. In 1913 she founded the Association of Munich Writers together with the writer Carry Brachvogel . Important women such as Ricarda Huch and Annette Kolb joined this association . Her literary salon invited "women in motion" to her apartment on Schönfeldstrasse in Munich-Schwabing every week.

Writing

In her stories, short stories and novels, she deals with women's issues from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In addition, her works give detailed insights into contemporary everyday life in Munich. In 1913 Ludwig Thoma and Georg Queri included her in their Bayernbuch as one of five female authors among a hundred authors and praised her as the “author of numerous psychological novels and sketches”. Some of her works have been reissued by Allitera Verlag Munich.
