Ocholt – Sedelsberg route

The Ocholt – Sedelsberg railway in Saterland did not come into the possession of the railway company until 2001, after the merger of HKB and MHE to form EEB. It is a remnant of the former route Cloppenburg - Friesoythe - Sedelsberg - Westerstede - Ellenserdamm, which was divided with the dismantling of a bridge over the coastal canal . When the line was supposed to be closed in 2001, EEB took over and has been carrying out freight traffic there since April 1, 2001, which mainly consists of the removal of peat cut in Saterland.

In addition to the EEB freight trains, trains of the Ammerland-Barßel-Saterland Museum Railway ( MABS ) also operate here .

Vehicles and transport services

The fleet of the Emsland Railway currently consists of seven locomotives, one each of which is a diesel locomotive of the types G 1700 , G 1206 and V 100 , two smaller locomotives (one of which is parked), a historic railcar and a service vehicle for track work. These are used in freight and museum traffic on the following dedicated routes:

  • Meppen - Haselünne - Herzlake - Löningen - Essen / Oldbg.
  • Lathen - Sögel - Werlte
  • (Oldenburg / O. -) Westerstede-Ocholt - Saterland-Sedelsberg

On the routes mentioned, the transport of agricultural products such as peat, wood and fertilizer dominates the picture of freight transport, another customer in freight transport is the Bundeswehr. In addition, since 2004/2005, EEB has been transporting household waste from the northern and central Emsland (loading stations Dörpen and Meppen) via the Rheine – Norddeich Mole railway line to the waste incineration plant in Salzbergen and serves several companies between Meppen and Haren. The previous transport performance was around 200,000 tons.

Furthermore, EEB finances school transport throughout the Emsland on behalf of the district in cases where transport by public transport is not possible.
