End-of-year Rugby Union Internationals 2000

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The End-of-year Rugby Union Internationals 2000 (also known as Autumn Internationals 2000) were a series of international rugby union games that ran from November 4th to December 2nd .

France and New Zealand played for the first time for the Dave Gallaher Trophy . As the two-game series ended 1-1, New Zealand won on points difference. The second game was the first to take place at the Stade Vélodrome .

The then Six Nations winner England played a game against the then Tri Nations winner Australia . England won the game, winning the Cook Cup for the first time . It was also England's first victory over Australia since the sport became professional.

A few days later, England's players went on strike over a dispute with the RFU over pay. With a game against Argentina planned for the next weekend , England's then coach Clive Woodward almost put together a new squad. The strike ended, however, as the dispute was resolved so that the players could play against Argentina as planned.
