Enea Masiero (born November 8, 1933 in Lonigo ; † March 31, 2009 in Milan ) was an Italian football player and later coach. He worked both as an active player and as a coach at Inter Milan and was Italian champion twice with the top club.

Player career

Enea Masiero was born on November 8, 1933 in Lonigo , a town in the province of Vicenza in the Veneto region . He started playing soccer at the city club, where he was discovered by the talent scouts of the then second division team Marzotto Valdagno in the early 1950s . Enea Masiero signed a contract in Valdagno in the summer of 1951, where he played football for the next four years. By 1955 Masiero brought it to a total of 88 league games with five goals in Serie B for Marzotto Valdagno.

Due to his good performance in the jersey of Marzotto Valdagno, Inter Milan became aware of Enea Masiero in 1955 and signed the midfielder for the 1955/56 season . At Internazionale Masiero played the next nine years from 1955 to 1964 and made 140 league games in Serie A during this time , in which he scored nine goals. He landed his greatest success in Serie A in 1962/63 , when after all match days they took first place with a lead of four points over Juventus Turin and won the title of Italian football champions for the eighth time in the club's history. As Italian champions qualified for the European Cup of National Champions of the following season, Inter Milan defeated FC Everton , AS Monaco , Partizan Belgrade and Borussia Dortmund one after the other and ultimately stood in the final of the competition, where Spanish representatives Real Madrid were defeated 3-1 . However, Enea Masiero was only a substitute player in the up-and-coming Inter team of coach Helenio Herrera and was not used in the final game in Vienna .

In the same summer Masiero Inter left Milan for Genoa , where he joined the local first division club Sampdoria . For Sampdoria Genoa, Enea Masiero was on the pitch for two years and made 55 league games without scoring during this time. Once a site was occupied in the lower middle of the Serie A in the first year in which had to Sampdoria with Enea Masiero 1965/66 season to take the course in the second division. Then the 33-year-old midfielder ended his active football career.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career as a football player, Enea Masiero became a coach. First he worked in the coaching staff of his old club Inter Milan and in 1970 became assistant coach under Heriberto Herrera and later under Giovanni Invernizzi . This season, Inter Milan became Italian champions. When Invernizzi was dismissed in March 1973, Masiero took over the interim coaching activity at Inter until the end of the season, which the team finished in fifth place. At the new season he was replaced by the returning Helenio Herrera. However, when he was relieved of his office due to unsuccessfulness at the beginning of 1974, the Inter bosses again appointed his assistant Masiero as his successor until the end of the season. Masiero promoted Inter to fourth place in Serie A 1973/74 .

In 1977 Enea Masiero took over a club again as head coach, but his engagement with the US Salernitana lasted only one year. His other activities as head coach were also short-lived, never more than a year. Enea Masiero trained Solbiatese Arno Calcio from 1978 to 1979 , Brindisi Sport from 1981 to 1982 and AC Mantova from 1982 to 1983 . After that, Masiero did not take over a club. He largely withdrew from the football business and lived in Milan , where he died on March 31, 2009 at the age of 75.
