Les Anges dans nos campagnes
Les Anges dans nos campagnes (numerous German translations, such as: "Hear the angels bright songs", "Hear how the angels sing", "Angels sing in the fields", "Angels have heavenly songs", "Angels bring good news" ) is a French Christmas carol . Text and come from France . The origin is usually dated to the 18th century. The oldest printed source is the collection Choix de cantiques sur des airs nouveaux (1842) of the Abbé Louis Lambillotte . There are different versions of the song. The text is based freely on the angels' proclamation to the shepherds from the Christmas story ( Lk 2,8-18 EU ). The Latin refrain Gloria in excelsis Deo means: "Glory to God on high."

There are numerous adaptations and innumerable recordings of the song, which has been translated into many languages. A German version of the text comes from Otto Abel (1905–1977) (“Hear the angel bright songs”). It was created in 1954 and was included in the Evangelical Hymnal (EG 54); A movement for three equal voices by Theophil Rothenberg is added to the refrain . Also in 1954, Maria Luise Thurmair wrote the German version “Angels singing in the fields”, which is contained in God's Praise (2013) under no. There you can also find the carol singing song “See our star standing there” by Diethard Zils to the same melody (No. 262). Lieselotte Holzmeister created in 1951 as the first transmission in the German-speaking countries in Fidula-Verlag published version of the text "angels heaven songs." The Salzburg composer Cesar Bresgen created two arrangements that were published by the publishers Doblinger and Schott . Johannes Haas created the German version of the text "Angels bring happy news". In 1972 Manfred Paul published a translation entitled "Friede, Freude". In 1987 Rolf Zuckowski published his text version “Hear how the angels sing”.
