Les Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois ( PCCB , German The Little Singers with the Wooden Cross , also known internationally as The Little Singers of Paris ) are a traditional French boys' choir . The choir was founded in Paris in 1907 and directed by Véronique Thomassin from 2000 . The boys' choir has completed numerous tours in France and on all continents and in the Vatican before Pius XII. and John XXIII. sung. The choir members cover around 50,000 kilometers a year and perform in front of around 50,000 listeners.

In 1924 the priest Fernand Maillet (1896–1963) became choirmaster , then Roger Delsinne, also a priest, followed by Bernard Houdy and later Rodolphe Pierrepont. From 1940, during the German occupation of northern France, the choir was located in the area of the Vichy regime in Lyon , later again in Paris, then at a castle in Glaignes (around 70 kilometers northeast of Paris). Since 2006, the seat has been back in Paris on the premises of the Fondation Eugène Napoléon in the 12th arrondissement . The boarding school is located at Château Saint-Loup (7, place Emile Blondeau BP 10) in Brienon-sur-Armançon .

The idea of founding the choir came to two students during a stay at the Tamié monastery . One of the two was Paul Berthier, father of organist and composer Jacques Berthier , the other Pierre Martin.

Part of the concept of the choir is not to be linked to a parish. The choir also makes guest appearances in churches, but has no worship duties like the German Kreuzchor. In addition to sacred songs , the repertoire also includes French and international folk songs . The singers live in boarding school all year round. There are currently around 100.

In November 1944, after France was liberated in World War II, the international Catholic choir organization Pueri Cantores was founded on the initiative of the choir .

The choir has a high media presence in France, it has already performed with Charles Aznavour , Mireille Mathieu , Florent Pagny , Faudel , Tina Arena , Lara Fabian , Bénabar , The Ten Tenors and Yannick Noah and with up to 10,000 singers. In 2007 the boys' choir performed on the occasion of the military parade on the national holiday and sang the Marseillaise .

Two feature films are closely related to Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois: The Nightingale Cage ( La Cage aux rossignols ) (1945, Jean Dréville ) and the German film The Children of Monsieur Mathieu (2004, Christophe Barratier ).

Former singers include the athlete Adrien Hardy and the former mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë .
