The Engelbach arises in two spring branches in the area of ​​the Bergen district . The longer eastern source branch rises at a height of about 531  m above sea level. NN in Waldgewann Am Zwiebrunnen . It first flows westwards and then makes a small arc to the right. The inflow of the western source branch is underground. After the confluence of its two spring branches, the Engelbach flows in a north-westerly direction and is dammed into a small pond when it emerges from the forest. It now runs through an agricultural zone and then passes, partly piped underground, the Ettenstatter district of Reuth under Neuhaus . Shortly before crossing under the St 2389 , it is fed by a small field ditch on its left. The Engelbach now flows on through fields and meadows and finally flows south of the Engelreuth district of the Pleinfeld market at an altitude of around 447  m above sea level.
