The Iris latifolia ( Iris latifolia ) or Pyrenean Iris is a plant from the kind of irises ( Iris ) within the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).
features
The English iris is a perennial bulbous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. The deciduous leaves are just as long as the stem or longer, striped, blue-green on the upper side and measure 25 to 60 × 0.5 to 0.8 centimeters. The 2 to 3 flowers have 2 equally long, inflated bracts. The perigon tube is fused with the stylus. The hanging leaves measure 6 to 7.5 × 3 to 3.5 centimeters. They have a round, ausgerandete at the top and by a constriction of the nail separate plate . The standards are traffic lanceolate and 4 inches long.
The flowering period extends from June to July.
Occurrence
The English iris is found in the Pyrenees , northwestern Spain and the Sierra de Guadarrama on moist mountain meadows at altitudes of mostly 1600 to 2200 meters.

The English iris is widely used as an ornamental plant in borders and as a cut flower. It has been in culture since 1568 at the latest. There are several varieties and hybrids . These are called Iris anglica hybrids. They have purple, purple, pink or white flowers.
