Enno Gerhard Anton Freerksen (born September 11, 1910 in Emden ; † October 4, 2000 in Mölln ) was a German anatomist , university professor and National Socialist.

Life

Enno Freerksen was the son of a savings bank director. He attended elementary school in his hometown and later moved to a grammar school in Aurich , where he graduated from high school in 1929. He then completed a degree in medicine and natural science at the University of Rostock . After starting his studies, he joined the Rostock Wingolf , but soon afterwards began to be active in the National Socialists. From 1930 he was a member of the National Socialist German Student Union , for which he was active from 1933 to 1934 as a university group leader and leader of the Rostock students. He belonged to the NSDAP (membership number 1,092,860) from 1932 and the SA from 1933.

In 1933 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD and in 1935 Dr. med. He then worked as an assistant at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Rostock. As part of the lecture series “Hereditary and Racial Issues for Physicians”, he lectured on “Hereditary Diseases: Race and Worldview”. In 1936 he was the leader of the Rostock university group of the Nazi lecturers' association and leader of the teaching staff at the University of Rostock. In 1936 he became senior assistant at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Giessen. In January 1938 he completed his habilitation for anatomy in Giessen and then worked there as a private lecturer . In 1938/39 he headed the Gießen faculty, was the Lecturer Association and Gaudozenten Association leader in Hessen-Nassau. In 1938 he joined the SS and was promoted to SS-Hauptsturmführer as a member of the SS Security Service in 1944 . After joining the SS, he left the church in 1939. In 1939 he was a visiting professor at the University of Zurich.

At the beginning of January 1940 he moved to the University of Kiel, where he became the first prosector at the Anatomical Institute . He also held a teaching position as a lecturer. At the beginning of 1941 he was appointed as a scheduled associate professor for anatomy in Kiel and headed the anatomical institute as director. In 1941 he was the local Lecturer League Leader and from 1941 to 1944 the Gaudozenten League Leader of Schleswig-Holstein. From 1942 to 1944 he was Vice Rector of the University of Kiel. In mid-January 1945 he was appointed full professor to the chair for anatomy and the history of medicine in Kiel.

After the end of the war, Freerksen was released by order of the British occupation authorities and arrested in July 1945 for his numerous party offices. However, he succeeded in convincing the responsible committees through Eugen Gerstenmaier's clean bill of health, among other things, that he had put up "resistance" against National Socialism. In his denazification process , he was then classified in Group V ("exonerated") in 1947. From 1950 he was director of the Borstel tuberculosis research institute , which he headed until 1978. There he devoted himself to bacteriological research on tuberculosis , leprosy , malaria and typhoid and was significantly involved in the development of new forms of therapy. In 1967 he was appointed to the Chair of Experimental Biology and Medicine at the University of Kiel, against the will of the Kiel Medical Faculty. In 1978 he retired . After his retirement he worked in the context of the treatment of tuberculosis and leprosy in an advisory and organizational capacity for governments of tropical countries. He was the author of specialist articles.

Freerksen was married and the couple had a son and two daughters. He spent his old age in the Augustinum residential building in Mölln.
