history

At the beginning of the 19th century there were around 56 simple houses on Kohlhökerstraße.
In 1849 areas of the Ostertor district were incorporated and the citizens were given full citizenship of Bremen. In this already denser development, after the lifting of the gate barrier , building was increased. The upper middle class now built here and displaced the less well-off classes.

Between Meinkenstrasse and Wulwesstrasse, mostly two-story, classicist , representative houses were built (No. 15, 19–21, 55–56, 62–63)

From 1860, the three-storey, three-axis, plastered row houses with classicist facades (nos. 10–13, 66–68) with window frames and decorative friezes predominate; typical representatives of the Bremen house.
This is followed by residential buildings in the playful, romanticizing style of historicism (No. 5, 19).
In 1876 the four-axle houses No. 52 and 54 with central entrances came.

The house type Bremer Haus , which occurs frequently in the district , was built in Bremen between the mid-19th century and the 1930s. The basement as a basement , the deep building shape and the side entrance are characteristic.

The building contractor Lüder Rutenberg planned and built houses no.5 and 6, Johann Hinrich Gottfried Dietrich houses no.20, 52 to 54, Albert Dunkel no.20 and Ernst Ludwig Klingenberg no.58.

Today (2018) the houses are still used for residential purposes but also as offices and practices.

At the beginning of the street near the Contrescarpe are new office buildings
