The Ensemble center in Thiersheim , a market town in the Upper Franconian district of Wunsiedel , is an architectural ensemble , under monument stands. In addition to the market square with a regular floor plan below the church and the churchyard , it includes the main street running in west-east direction and the settlement area of the so-called suburb to the west.

history

The development of the market town, which was first mentioned in 1182, is closely linked to the routes of the Reichsstrasse Frankfurt am Main - Eger and Regensburg - Magdeburg . The oldest area of the place is on the hill with the church, the location of the castle courtyard and several courtyards. Located in the realm of Eger, Thiersheim came into the possession of the burgraves of Nuremberg after several changes of rule from the 15th to the late 18th century . In addition to agriculture, ore mining , weaving , soapstone mining and lime burning shaped the economic structure from the late Middle Ages to the early 20th century . In 1791 the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia and in 1810 to the Kingdom of Bavaria

description

The steeply rising market square is built with unadorned two-storey eaves breeches, some of which date from the 19th century. On the upper, northern side is the late Romanesque parish church with its characteristic dome tower. The church and the churchyard are integrated into a square building block.

The main street running below the market square still has closed rows of simple two-storey eaves side houses in the Biedermeier style . In addition to the majority of the buildings from the 19th century, there are still some with older style elements in this area.

The ensemble covers almost the entire distance between the former city gates Wunsiedler and Egerer Tor in Hauptstraße. The northern exit was the Thiersteiner Tor, which also no longer existed, above the church. The street names Oberer Stadtgraben and Unterer Stadtgraben indicate the former outer boundary of the market settlement.

West of the main street, in front of the former Wunsiedler Tor, the street area widens to the suburb. The small, trapezoidal square is characterized by gable-facing buildings as well as by Biedermeier buildings, which correspond to the picture on the main street and the market square.
