Enter is the debut album by the Dutch metal band Within Temptation .

History of origin

After the founding of Within Temptation and the establishment of a first stable band constellation in 1996, the group Enter recorded as a demo tape and contacted several record labels . The band then received offers from various independent labels . After signing a contract with DSFA , Within Temptation began to record studio-quality Enter . As a guest musician, producer Lex Vogelaar played the guitar for Pearls of Light and singer George Oosthoek from Orphanage provided the guttural vocals for Deep Within .

style

The debut album of Within Temptation is, unlike later releases of the group, assigned to Gothic Metal . The songs have a melancholy mood and are characterized by the contrast between the clear female vocals of Sharon den Adel and the growling of guitarist Robert Westerholt, borrowed from Death Metal . In particular, the album is noticeably close to the early style of Theater of Tragedy and Tristania .

Publication and reception

The album was released for the first time on April 7, 1997. Following the release, the band performed at the Dynamo Open Air and did a two-week European tour. In the years after its first release and with the group's increasing success, the debut was reissued several times and often received positive reviews. Occasionally, when reviewing recent releases, reviewers referred to the album and the band's attested status as a potential bearer of hope in Gothic Metal.
