Pupo (* 11. September 1955 in Ponticino as Enzo Ghinazzi ) is an Italian pop singer and television presenter . Pupo has been musically active since the 1970s and took part in the Sanremo Festival six times . His best-known songs include Su di noi and Forse , both of which were recorded in German by Howard Carpendale (as Wer von uns and Wie frei Do You want to be ).

Career

Ghinazzi performed early on with local groups and took part in singing competitions. At the age of twenty he was signed to the Baby Records label by producer Freddy Naggiar , already under the pseudonym Pupo proposed by Naggiar. In 1976 Pupo made his debut with the single Ti scriverò , which also brought immediate success. Hits like Come sei bella , Ciao , Gelato al cioccolato , Firenze Santa Maria Novella , Su di noi or Lo devo solo a te followed . The singer also took part in the Sanremo Festival several times, for example with Su di noi in 1980 , with Cieli azzurri in 1983 and with Un grande amore in 1984 , but the success was limited.

In the mid-1980s, Pupo's career also suffered from problems in his private life. While La vita è molto di più , a collaboration with Fiordaliso , was largely ignored in Italy, its popularity rose in Russia and Eastern Europe at this time. In 1989 he was hired by Gianni Boncompagni for the television program Domenica in , which Pupo now made known again in his home country. In 1992 he returned to Sanremo with La mia preghiera , otherwise he was mainly active as a television presenter in the 90s.

Only in 2009 did Pupo - in a trio with Paolo Belli and Youssou N'Dour - again take part in the Sanremo Festival with L'opportunità ; The very next year he returned with Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia and the tenor Luca Canonici and was able to achieve second place in the final with Italia amore mio .
