Enzo Siciliano
Enzo Siciliano (born May 27, 1934 in Rome ; † June 9, 2006 ibid) was an Italian writer , journalist , literary, film and music critic .
life and work
Before making his literary debut, Enzo Siciliano studied philosophy , worked as a teacher and began a journalistic career in the state television broadcaster RAI , of which he was director from 1996 to 1998. He also directed the Florentine cultural institute Gabinetto Scientifico Letterario GP Vieusseux and was one of the senior editors of the Nuovi Argomenti magazine .
His writing and literary critical work was u. a. shaped by Giacomo Debenedetti , Alberto Moravia , Pier Paolo Pasolini , Elsa Morante , Giorgio Bassani and Attilio Bertolucci . In 1963 his first work was his “Racconti ambigui” (“ambiguous stories”). He is considered a sober narrator and attentive observer of contemporary man in his complex psychology. For La principessa e l'antiquario (1980) he received the Premio Viareggio in 1981 . First and foremost, he drew attention to himself with his historical novels , best known among them I bei momenti (1997), which reminds WA Mozart's eventful life and for which he received the Premio Strega in 1998 .
Occasionally he also wrote plays and worked as a film director or actor. B. in the role of Simon Zelotes in Pasolini's The First Gospel - Matthew (1964). As part of his many years of work with the Nuovi Argomenti , he was above all a persistent and attentive discoverer of numerous new talents such as the writers Dario Bellezza , Franco Cordelli , Sandro Veronesi , Edoardo Albinati , Aurelio Picca , Andrea Carraro and Lorenzo Pavolini .
