Edoardo Albinati
Edoardo Albinati (born October 11, 1956 in Rome ) is an Italian writer.
Life
Edoardo Albinati grew up in Rome in the Trieste quarter and attended the high school San Leone Magno and in the final school year the state high school Giulio Cesare. Albinati edited film scripts, translated literature from English and worked as an editor for the literary magazine Nuovi Argomenti . In 1988 he published his first volume of short stories, Arabeschi della vita morale . His novel Il polacco lavatore di vetri , published in 1989, was filmed in 1998 by Peter Del Monte . Since 1994 he has been working as a teacher in the prison in the Roman district of Rebibbia .
From 2002 to 2004 Albinati was a member of a mission of the UN Refugee Commissioner in Afghanistan and in 2004 in the same function in Chad . His reports appeared in the Corriere della Sera and in La Repubblica .
Albinati won the Premio Viareggio in 2004 for the novel Svenimenti . The novel Tuttalpiù muoio , written in 2006 together with the actor Filippo Timi , was also published by Timi as a stage work.
In 2015 he wrote the screenplay for the fantasy film Il racconto dei racconti with the film director Matteo Garrone . He wrote the screenplay for Fai at sogni for Marco Bellocchio .
In 2016, Albinati received the "most important Italian literary prize" Premio Strega for the novel The Catholic School . With 1294 pages, the unusually extensive novel contains everything from sociological considerations to aphorisms, psychograms , essays and philosophical statements. According to reviewer Maike Albath, it shines in terms of language and style and is translated just as brilliantly; the translation was awarded the 2020 German-Italian Translator Prize. In terms of content, the novel takes a crime that actually happened in 1975 by three of the author's classmates as the starting point for putting a moral image of Italian society in the 1970s on paper.
